Make it a Christmas to remember

Many of our childhood memories revolve around Christmas and the magical colours, lights, smells and excitement associated with it. This year you can enjoy those simple pleasures once more at the National Trust.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the high street and enjoy a truly magical experience, as the National Trust goes all out to make it a Christmas to remember. Gaze at the splendour of richly decorated rooms, enjoy the timeless sounds of carol singers and savour the wonderful scents of cinnamon, nutmeg and roasting chestnuts.

Here are our Christmas events you won’t want to miss:

Christmas at Blickling, Norfolk
First three weekends in December, 11am – 7pm

The new Christmas at Blickling features a feast of traditional Christmas attractions. The Hall will be as you’ve never seen it before, with every room stunningly decorated for a traditional Christmas by flower arrangers from across the region, complemented by a beautiful display of lights in the garden. There will be craft, food and vintage fairs in the courtyard marquee not to mention a great range of gifts in the shop. Look out for Father Christmas in his workshop and an enchanted trail for younger visitors to follow. Why not treat yourself to a mouth watering Christmas lunch in the restaurant? There really is something for all the family this festive season at Blickling Hall.

Christmas at Oxburgh, Norfolk

Weekends 11, 12, 18 & 19 December, 11am – 6pm

Come and see Oxburgh Hall in all its splendour, dressed for a traditional family Christmas, with Christmas trees, swags and wreaths. And for those who’ve written a list for Father Christmas, this is your chance to give it to him in person. Look out for his reindeer and have your photograph taken with them, as they make a special appearance on the weekend of 18 and 19 December. There will be carols and festive music to spread a little cheer, craft activities for children and Christmas wreaths will be available to buy made from foliage on the estate. Don’t forget to indulge yourself with mince pies, mulled wine and turkey baps; the gift shop is also the perfect place to find those last minute gifts – for young and old alike.

Free admission to Garden and Estate. Entry into the house adult 5, child 2 (including NT members). Meet Father Christmas, 11am – 4pm. 3 per child (includes present).

Christmas at Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk

Friday 17 & Saturday 18 December, 5.30 pm – 8.30pm

See the downstairs rooms of Felbrigg Hall decorated for Christmas and meet some of the characters from its Victorian past. Staff and volunteers have been busy getting the house ready, using evergreen from the estate. From swags over the fireplaces to garlands, table centrepieces and a Christmas tree with traditional decorations, such as cinnamon sticks and dried orange slices. Smell the aroma of mulled wine warming on the stove in the old kitchen as the cook and maids go about their business. A magical time of year to step inside this beautiful and intimate house, don’t leave without enjoying a glass of mulled wine and mince pies in the brasserie and a visit to the gift shop for those last minute presents.
