Gresham's School, Holt NorfolkGresham's Prep School

Pupils from Gresham's Prep School put on a spectacular concert as part of their Speech Day on Friday 28th June marking the end to their school year. Each year the School invites a special guest speaker to present end of year prizes, as well as gifts to all the Year 8 leavers. This year the School was delighted to welcome Sophie Christiansen OBE., a British equestrian and triple gold medal winner who has competed in three successive Paralympic Games. In her speech, Sophie told the Prep School that she never allowed her disabilities to stop her following her dreams and said that winning a bronze medal changed her life and gave her the confidence to carry on. She advised pupils to embrace change and follow their dreams and concluded by wishing all the Year 8 School Leavers the very best of luck. It was both a moving and inspirational speech highlighting to not just the children but everyone present that anything is possible if you are determined to work hard and follow your dreams. Such was the impact of her speech that it was met by a standing ovation.

Speech Day at the Prep School was themed 'Sounds of the '60s' and was kicked off with a rock concert followed by a string of performances by each year group. There was a variety of ensembles performing everything from rock to Celtic music, as well as dance and dramatic performances supported by the Prep School Orchestra. The sheer variety of musical instruments being played by children as young as nine was said by one parent to be "truly amazing when you consider how young these children still are". The concert culminated with a whole School performance of Hey Jude (The Beatles) which raised the roof!

He said, “Research across Europe has indicated that people who are most likely to be flourishing and happy are socially connected, trust others, value creativity, new ideas, loyalty, helping others and enjoying life. These are the attitudes and skills that are central to us at Gresham’s Prep.” It was certainly evident to see from all the happy smiling faces on stage!

Summer celebration at Gresham’s Pre-Prep

Gresham’s Pre-Prep in Holt hosted its annual summer celebration and Speech Day on Thursday 27th June at the Auden Theatre, Holt. The event was an opportunity for pupils to perform in their Houses to Heads, Governors, parents, family members and staff and a chance to say goodbye to the 2013 Leavers moving on to Gresham’s Prep and other schools.

Mrs Davidson worked with Mr Howell and Miss Haines in the recent production where she was cast as The Mother Abbess alongside Year 1 pupil Emily Morton as Gretl.

Children performed on stage in their Houses, and one House had the honour of singing Do-Re-Me from The Sound of Music accompanied by Helen Haines. A prize-giving followed with all Leavers being presented with a book to mark their time at the School. Mr Howell then spoke about the importance of the Arts in children’s' lives saying it “broadens their horizons, builds confidence and teaches discipline and hard work which helps to shape their future lives”. He congratulated the School for championing the Arts in its many forms and wished the School much success in the future.

Mrs Davidson then presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Camilla Mullis, Year 3 Teacher who leaves Gresham's this year. After the concert, guests and children gathered in the marquee on the Chapel lawn for refreshments.
