North Norfolk Photographic Society beat them all!
Colin Westgate drove from Essex and back to be judge of North Norfolk Photographic Society’s Annual Competition for printed images. Colin has FRPS MFIAP APAGB after his name and is well-known as Quest Photography running photographic workshops and holidays.
The best of this year’s bunch were presented for Colin’s assessment, as usual in two sections - so-called ’novices’ and ’advanced’.
Winner of the ‘novices’ was Grace Glaister whose photograph ’Crows’ of a field with 2 crows and a hedge was one of 3 given full marks, the others being Grace Glaister again with ‘Remains of the Day’ and Val Dawson with ‘Keeping Watch’.
Then the Advanced section, with 63 entries. Diana Knight won this with a picture of a herd of zebra getting away from a lioness - entitled ‘Failed Ambush’.
Four entries received full marks, second being ‘The Embrace’ by Malcolm English, a touching portrait of a woman and a girl, and third Liz Akers with ‘Colours of the Hebrides’. Diana Knight’s ‘Cheetah on Patrol’ was also Highly Commended.
North Norfolk Photographic Society members were treated to a visit by Will Cheung FRPS on 21st June. Will is the editor of Photography News, a free national tabloid-sized monthly newspaper which is distributed to many of the leading independent photo retailers (where you can pick up a free copy) and to most UK camera clubs - including this one!
Will was at pains to emphasise that he does not really regard himself as a professional photographer - that is not what editing a magazine entails - but he does have a passion for photography and could be considered rather more than an enthusiastic and talented amateur.
Will showed scores of his pictures, mostly centred around his interest in projects - photos on particular themes. He has worked on projects involving Umbrellas, on the Docklands Light Railway, on Seaside Piers, on Seven Magnificent London Graveyards - and others.
Will spoke eloquently for two and a half hours as he showed his pictures and seemed at the end to be as fresh and vigorous as when he started, in spite of the sweltering heat that day!
Meetings of the North Norfolk Photographic Society are normally held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays each month at the Holt Community Centre. For further details please contact the club Secretary, Judith Wells at firstname.lastname@example.org or see the club website at http://www.nnphotosoc.org/
