The wind blew quietly from the North Sea
Near Sheringham’s prickly thorns,
“Mare Ditat Pinusque Decorat”
The sea enriches and the pine adorns.
The drive from Cromer on a sunny day,
Red brick churches standing tall –
Sea gulls cried from the roofs of clay,
And English gardens were wall to wall.
Eleanor’s cross erected of Chipsham stone,
The names of men that fought and died;
The old water mill is now gone…
Corn was ground while the wind cried!
A Sea Symphony echoes from the grave,
But to the visitor they are walking blind;
Hidden are the secrets of Beeston Bump,
Scares from a war that was left behind.
Sharingham England sets by the North Sea,
And her people are having a spot of tea.
