READERS LETTER

Thank you so much to the person who allowed their dog to foul the footpath outside the chemist on Saturday 1st March. It was trodden in dozens of times by the look of it and spread right across the width of the pavement. People with pushchairs or wheelchairs didn't stand a chance, anyone deep in conversation to somebody else didn't stand a chance, young children without a care in the world didn't stand a chance, other dogs with better behaved owners didn't stand a chance. It's not up to the people in the shop to clean it up; you are the one making a mess with your dog. If it's on a lead drag it over to the curb so at least its mess is less likely to be trodden in. Besides if you have a dog you're supposed to take it for a proper walk, you know exercise, there is enough countryside in North Norfolk for you to let your pets roam free and foul places that will cause less inconvenience. However if you feel you have to walk your pooches in the town pick up the mess with a bag and put it in the dog bins provided or take it home with you. It's your choice to walk your dog where you want therefore it's your responsibility to clean up the mess left by your mutt. There seem to be some pooh-pooh hot spots in Sheringham - Beeston Road, a thin path with no room to manoeuvre around the mess; The Boulevard, might be wide but still as bad; and of course the Promenade, where it's the one safe place to let children run around as they please. So next time you take your little treasure for a walk, don't be so disgusting and have a little consideration for other people who use our wonderful town centre.

Carnival Photo in Issue 7

Sheringham Community Paper
We have had a fantastic response to this photo and are now able to name some of the people taking part and watching in the crowd. Standing outside the Penguin Cafe we believe, are Jean and Jim Bussey. Slightly to the left of them is Mr Dennis Winterbourne. We think that the lady escorting the children in fancy dress at the front of the picture is Mrs Prince who was from Bodham and is the lady in the dark scirt Carnival stalwart Mollie West? Lastly, we think this lady is Valerie Stewart who used to live up Beeston Road. The Year? 1957.

READERS LETTERS

I can remember the winter of 1947. The snow was so deep I had to walk in my father's footsteps going up George Street. It would have gone over my rubber boots otherwise. I was 11 at the time.

Dear Editor
Seeing your front page picture (Issue 9) brought back some memories. My first job after leaving school was delivering newspapers. Starting around Common Lane, through Sheringwood and finishing down Britons Lane. I'm not sure of the year (1943 or 1944), this particular year we'd had no papers for 3 days and as the snow was so deep another paper boy (no School) and I piled 3 days papers onto his sledge and pulled it. As we got to the bottom of Britons Lane it was just like your picture, with a narrow path just wide enough for the sledge and up to our shoulders. The boy was David (Twoshy) Brown, many of your older readers will remember David's father - Walter - Fisherman. I still keep in touch with David.
Yours sincerely
K E Turner (Miss)
P.S. I think it took us all morning to deliver and even then some customers complained because we were late.
"Those were the days".
