| A WARNING TO
ALL LOCAL BUSINESSES |
Our thanks go to Craig and Sharon at The Red Hart in Bodham, for bringing this scam to our
attention and also to Bob Brewster at The Crown. We know that it has had some publicity in
the nationals, but felt that for those of you who do not always have time to read these
from cover to cover, a little more information may be of help.
When this was brought to our attention, we asked some businesses in town and found that
they are no longer only targeting the Pubs, but other types of business as well, so
beware.
If you receive some paperwork from the DATA PROTECTION AGENCY SERVICES - FINAL NOTICE,
demanding £95, beware, it is bogus! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS. The paperwork has an
address, which is actually a school in Stoke, there is no telephone number for you to
contact. Our simple message to businesses is to ignore these letters, and not to pay the
fee demanded. Instead you should report the letters to your local trading standards
office. Only the Commissioners information office based in Wilmslow has the statutry
authority to enforce the £35 annual registration fee.

For more information regarding this matter phone 01625
545745 or the ICO has set up a special web site at www.dpr.gov.uk, which lists a number of
companies that have been brought to its attention, yet have no connection with the
government.
IF IN DOUBT - CHECK IT OUT! |
