HOLDS VE/VJ DAY THANK YOU CELEBRATION |
 |
The Sheringham Branch of the Royal British Legion and The
Tyneside Club have joined together to lay on a celebration party for the people of
Sheringham to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the end of WWII. The party is on 21st
August from 12 noon until 4pm at The Tyneside Club. There will be plenty of patriotic
bunting, Union Flags, sing-along music from the era, dancing, raffles and a lovely buffet.
Best of all it's free of charge, all you have to do is turn up and have a good time.
EVERYONE is welcome of all ages, indeed the more the merrier as this is probably the 'last
hurrah' for many of those involved. The remit of The Royal British Legion is the welfare of
the ex-service community and their dependants and Sheringham is a community packed with
those who have served us over the years. There has only been ONE YEAR since the end of WWII
when service personnel from Great Britain have not been involved in conflict as either
peacekeepers or involved in fighting. As this paper has said many times in the past, the
services are called upon to help not only in times of war, but also have a peace time
function, one recent example being during the foot and mouth epidemic. They often have to
perform tasks that are to say the least unsavoury, but they always do so with efficiency
and humour. It's time to say thank you to them all - so come along and enjoy the afternoon
and help us to remember why our country is called GREAT Britain. |
