TAKE PART IN BANGER RACE ACROSS 4,000 MILES! |
Two intrepid, adventurous local lads will to be taking part in what has
been dubbed the "Ultimate Banger Challenge" as they participate in a car rally
with a difference across 4,000 miles from Plymouth to Banjul, Gambia, in aid of their
locally based charity BREAK. Will Wilson and Matthew 'Maff' Sharp, both aged 28 from
Sheringham, are undertaking this challenge of a lifetime and will be hitting the road on
the 9 February 2006 in their yellow 1971 VW Beetle. Funds raised from the expedition
will go towards providing much needed holidays, short breaks and respite care for children
and adults with learning and physical disabilities at BREAK's two North Norfolk centres -
Rainbow at Sheringham and The Sandcastle in Hunstanton. The route will see them
through France, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Western Sahara, Senegal and finally finishing
in Gambia which should take the pair about three weeks, if all goes well. The rules
of the rally state you must buy a car for £100 and make it road worthy for another £15,
so after hours spent trawling the internet auction sites Will and Maff came across this
distant relative of Herbie and imported it from America, naming it 'Corkey Too' after a
boat the two used to sail on the Norfolk Broads. Will talks about the trip, "We
tried to enter two years ago, but forgot! We tried again the next year but didn't
get accepted. So, when the challenge came up again we entered.

We got our entry form in on the very last
day and a few months later, got the e-mail of acceptance. "We both have a love
of driving cars and couldn't think of a better way to have a full-on, three week 'burn'
across some extremely challenging terrain. "We hope to take in some amazing scenery,
meet some great people, experience something totally different and raise some cash for
good causes. When we get to Banjul, our car, 'Corkey Too' gets auctioned off along
with the others that make it. The cash raised here goes towards improving local
amenities - plus some locals get some cracking cars! "Closer to home our chosen
charity is BREAK which provides special care services for children, adults and families
with special needs. They really do some fantastic work so please visit our donation
page and help us to help others." To support Will and Maff or find out more -
